Hitler Timeline: 20th Century Rulers and Governments

1900: Hitler’s father enrolls him in a technical college in the town on Linz, but he received poor grades and disappointed his father who wanted him to become a civil servant.

1908: Hitler moves to Vienna to study at the Academy there but does not get accepted and ends up living in a homeless shelter.

1914: During WWI Hitler enlist in the German Army and earns the ranking of corporal.

1921: Hitler earns the role of leader to the Nationalist Socialist Party (A.K.A Nazis).

1925: “Mein Kampf”, Hitler’s book, is published.

1930: The great depression hits and affects Germany. German people lost hope in their government and turned to Hitler and his party. They are elected into the national offices and become the second largest party in Germany.

1933:  -Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany   -The first concentration camp opens outside of Berlin         - Nazis are declared the only party in Germany.

1934: Hitler becomes Fuehrer of Germany.

1935: Nuremberg Race Law takes place, stripping Jews of their race. The Holocaust begins.

1936: The Olympics are held in Germany, the famous Jesse Owens embarrasses Hitler.

1939: Germany has invaded many places by this time, they invades Poland and WWII begins.

1940: Many countries are taken over (Norway, Denmark, France, Holland).

1941: Gas chambers are introduced in Auschwitz known as ‘The Final Solution’.

1943: The Nazis are defeated and the war begins to turn.

1944: “D-Day”, Paris is liberated.

1945: Hitler commits suicide on April 30^th. The Nazi party also comes to an end.

In 1943 the Nazi party arrested his sister for ‘undermining morale’. She was sentenced to death by guillotine

Anne Frank

Born June 12, 1929

German-Jewish teen, forced into hiding during the Holocaust

Spent 25 months above her father’s office in Amsterdam

In March, 1945, 9 months after she and her family was found. Anne Frank died of typhus at the age of 15.

Her Diary was published in 1947, later becoming one of the most widely read books in the world

Aldona Gustas

Born in Lithuania March 2, 1932

Moved to Berlin in 1941

Published 11 books of poetry between 1962-1980. 

Main theme being Love

Received Rahel Varnhagen Medal in 1997.
